Senior Josh Hairston explains how he was named captain. "We had a meeting last night to go over team standards and stuff like that and Coach (Krzyzewski) was talking about the leadership that Rodney Hood and Tyler Thornton had displayed thus far and how they've done a great job leading our group. He threw me in as a third guy who wasn't named as a captain but was still acting like a captain. It kind of caught me off guard and he said that I deserved it and that I'd earned it and proven myself and he named me a captain right there on the spot. I guess he told Tyler and Rodney before because Tyler told me afterwards that he was trying to make eye contact with me to hint that it was coming. It was exciting. I'm truly honored. This is something I've dreamed about since I've been here. To help lead this group of guys is something I'll remember forever.
[Coach K got emotional] and it kind of caught me off guard because I didn't know how to react to it. I remember exactly what he said, and I'll remember it forever. He said he loves when his guys cross the bridge and become men. That's when he said he was going to name me a captain tomorrow. I almost got a tad bit emotional too because I felt like that was my moment with coach. I mean, not everybody has those moments with a legend such as that so it'll be something that I'll remember for the rest of my life."
